Question 3
3).
Pick one concept from the assigned reading this week, not already discussed,
that you found useful or interesting and discuss it.
One
concept from the reading that has yet to be discussed is decision-making and
the decision making process. Decision-making is basically the process of
choosing between two or more options to get your desired solution. This is a
skill that is difficult to master, and it is definitely something we get better
at with time. The six steps for effective decision-making are define, examine,
consider, initial, develop, evaluate. These steps are critical in the decision
making process because it essentially breaks down the issue into smaller
sections. Accomplishing each step allows for the bigger issue to be resolved.
This is essentially what you are working towards in the decision-making
process. The idea of group process is just basically how the group works and
communicates together to complete tasks and make decisions as a team.
Hi Raya!
ReplyDeleteI’ve always found the decision-making process to be a fascinating thing. It definitely is a tough skill to master. I found the six steps described in the book to be pretty efficient at explaining the whole process. We need to define what our goal is, be it long or short term. Then we need to examine everything that can keep us from reaching the goal. Considering these we can brainstorm possible alternatives to the obstacles. From the initial decision can be made, what route will we take? Once determined we can make the tentative plan, watch as our route develops. While it is developing, or in the aftermath, we evaluate everything and create the necessary feedback to optimize this system, in case we come to similar instances. If a group can work in synergy on these steps, they can achieve anything! Great post!
i agree, decision-making is a very difficult skill to master. I think the hardest part about it is when you are the main focal point of your group, or the leader, and people look up to you to make these decisions that would effect the entire group. A good leader has to do well under pressure in order to make good decisions. But, a leader should follow those steps to define, examine, consider, initial, develop, and evaluate. If a leader does that, that means he/she has exorcised every possible route to ensure that they have made the correct or best choice.
